Arte Fiera’s 44th edition has been held from 24 to 26 January 2020, directed for the second consecutive year by Simone Menegoi and by Gloria Bartoli as vice director, that welcomed visitors in Halls 15 and 18 of BolognaFiere with works presented by 155 galleries.
Arte Fiera has confirmed its eagerness to offer new, ambitious, high-quality projects, as demonstrated by some important features: in addition to the Main Section there were three sections by invitation, forming the core of the exhibition and focusing on new curators.
Photography and Moving Images has returned, entrusted once again to the curatorial platform FANTOM (Selva Barni, Ilaria Speri, Massimo Torrigiani, Francesco Zanot). The section had again reflect on the present (and the future) of the two media that define our daily visual horizon.
The 2020 edition has also seen the debut of a new section devoted to art from 1900 to 1950 and to post-war masters: Focus, with a strict inclusion criterion that will change from year to year according to the curator invited. The first edition of Focus was entrusted to Laura Cherubini, an esteemed art historian, critic and curator, known especially for her contributions to the study of Italian art from the 1960s and ‘70s.
Another new feature of the exhibition, a real innovation for art market events (not only in Italy), has been Pittura XXI, a section devoted entirely to 21st century painting. For the first time, Arte Fiera focused on the most traditional – and most controversial – form of contemporary art, offering a panorama of emerging and mid-career artists from Italy and abroad. This section has been curated by Davide Ferri, an independent critic and curator.
